Outdoor Ranges re opening with conditions

Maynard Rod & Gun Club

Operating Procedures During the Covid-19 Pandemic

With the Governor’s Executive Order signed today, May 18th, Gun Clubs are now allowed to re-open under Phase 1 of the plan.  The MR&GC Executive Board has agreed to re-open the Club on a limited basis with some restrictions and limitations put in place.  Through the directives of the Committees and the Board, Club members must follow the COVID-19 guidelines as outlined below while maintaining social distancing.

Effective Immediately, the new Covid-19 guidelines are as follows

Clubhouse and Club Grounds:

  • The MR&GC Clubhouse and Pavilion is closed until further notice. This includes the Members’ Lounge, Function Hall, Indoor Range and any other area of the building.
    • No one is allowed to enter the Clubhouse except for the Club Managers, Club Secretary and the Club Treasurer to conduct ongoing Club business.
    • Exceptions will be made for Executive Board Members or Committee Chairs if an emergency arises.
  • The Club will remain closed to the public and NO guests are allowed into any part of the club premises until further notice.

Rifle & Pistol Ranges:

  • The Indoor Range is closed until further notice.
  • Members ONLY, no guests. This applies to family members and friends, no exceptions.  We realize that members with guests living in the same household is acceptable in other places, we would like to keep the turnout to a manageable level with member use of the ranges taking first priority.
  • Wearing of your membership badge at all times will be required with stringent enforcement. Badges must be visible.
  • Social distancing guidelines as recommended by the state are always to be followed and strictly adhered to.
  • Members can use the outdoor ranges at their own risk, the Club is not responsible for any health-related issues arising from the use of Club property.
  • Rifle and Pistol stations are limited to two (2) shooters separated by at least one station.
  • The Action Range can be opened by those previously qualified to do so, but a limit of four (4) members at a time with at least one shooting station open between them.
  • At no time are other members allowed to watch with them or be inside the same section beyond the allowed number of shooters.
    • If the stations are occupied, members must wait outside the Rifle/Pistol shooting area either in your vehicle or other common/open area.
  • Time on the range is limited to 60 minutes. If no other member is present and waiting, members can stay beyond the 60 minutes until another member arrives to use the range.
  • Members using the ranges are asked to wear gloves and other protective gear while handling the lockbox, flag or sign-in sheet.
  • Please plan to bring some wipes or other supplies to sanitize the area after use.

Trap & Skeet Ranges:

  • Members ONLY, no guests. This applies to family members and friends, no exceptions.  We realize that members with guests living in the same household is acceptable in other places, we would like to keep the turnout to a manageable level with member use of the ranges taking first priority.
  • Wearing of your membership badge at all times will be required with stringent enforcement. Badges must be visible.
  • The Shooters’ Den on the Sudbury side will remain closed. Only one person will be allowed in to access the skeet controllers.
  • The maximum number of shooters on the trap field at one time is five (5) members. No observers, no scorer.
  • The maximum number of shooters on the skeet field at one time is four (4) members. No observers, no scorer.  All shooters are asked to maintain social distancing while waiting to shoot as well as when moving from station to station.
  • We ask that only one person loads the machines. The trap/skeet house is too tight a space for more than one person.  We ask that that person wear gloves and a face covering while handling the machine.
  • When reloading the trap/skeet houses with clays at the end of the day, all personnel must wear masks or face coverings and gloves while handling the machines.
  • Maintain social distancing as much as possible.
  • All doors and equipment to be sanitized by the person(s) who closes the trap/skeet house.
  • Please plan to bring some wipes or other supplies to sanitize the area after use.

As members, we are responsible to follow the rules to minimize the risk to ourselves and our fellow Club members.  You are solely responsible for your own health and safety.  Those members choosing to use the Club during this time will need to follow the Massachusetts COVID-19 guidelines, as well as the guidelines set forth by GOAL:

  • Stay 6 feet away from others and maintain social distance. Masks or facial coverings are recommended.
  • Do not shake hands and avoid groups of 10 people or more.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Avoid sharing equipment.
  • Clean things before and after you touch them with household cleaning spray or wipes (please bring from home).
  • Cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze with a tissue or your inner elbow, not your hand.
  • And as always, observe all safe firearms use and handling rules along with range safety practices.

By coming to the club, you acknowledge that in the past 14 days you have experienced no Covid-19 symptoms and have not been in contact with anyone who has.  If you experience any symptoms while at the club, you agree to immediately leave the property and not return for a minimum of 14 days after symptoms have gone away.

We need ALL MEMBER cooperation on abiding by these new rules, in particular social distancing.  Please take these rules seriously otherwise your individual actions could jeopardize the ability of the Club to remain open for everyone.  FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE NEW RULES AND GUIDELINES COULD RESULT IN THE SUSPENSION OF YOUR SHOOTING PRIVILEGES AND COULD ULTIMATELY RESULT IN A RE-CLOSURE OF THE CLUB’S RANGES.

These rules are subject to change as new information comes forward or as the situation changes.  The Club’s Committees and Executive Board will continue to monitor the recommended guidelines set out by the state and will update the Membership with such changes as they arise.

Thank you for your cooperation.
